In 2000 the Quadrennial Shaving Performance was held in the car, in memory of the 7 hour drive (a half year earlier) from New York to Cleveland to say a final good-by to Irina's father, Aleksander Brikker. BRAID#4 was cut while driving the car from Irina's apartment in The Bronx (2059 Colonial Ave.) to the East Village Cafe Yaffa (beautiful). There were 5 passengers in the car: Catherine McGregor (UK) and John Badami (Staten Island) cut the driver's hair; Aleksey Danilov (video) and his friend Sergei (photo) documented the performance; Ignat Ayzenberg held a flash light. In the Cafe Yaffa all 4 braids were stacked on top of each other creating a braid column from the table top to the ceiling. Irina's newly bald head was decorated with fluorescent markers and illuminated by black light provided by Aleksey Danilov. |
