August 31, 2004
Palitra Gallery
Kharkiv, Ukraine

The Quadrennial Shaving Performance started in 1984 in Kharkiv, Ukraine with a symbolic haircut just before Irina Danilova moved from Kharkiv to Moscow. To commemorate this very first event, a new series, 20 YEARS AFTER, was developed and the project returned to Kharkiv. Both art school friends, artists Lena Kudinova and Masha Glushchenko who made the initial haircut in 1984, cut BRAID#5 at the Palitra Gallery in Kharkiv. Curator: Andrei Avdeenko. This performance was recorded for the local Art and Culture TV Channel, reporter Yelena Grigoreva. Less than 2 months after the shaving performance in the Ukraine, their national election led to the Orange Revolution.
