QUADRENNIAL SHAVING PERFORMANCE / CUT IN CHICAGO

August 31, 2020
Illinois RT 59
Chicago, USA

Quadrennial Shaving Performance in Chicago was the last in the 20 Years After series that started in 2004 by echoing shavings of 1984-2000. Thus in 2004 the performance was back in Kharkiv, Ukraine (Palitra Gallery); in 2008 in the hometown (New York); in 2012 back in Moscow (National Center for Contemporary Art); in 2016 on the other continent (Australia); and in 2020 Irina was shaved while driving a car, 20 years after the performance in New York (2000), in memory of driving from New York to Cleveland to dying father. The Covid era performance in the middle of 2020 could not be public and shaving in the car was a relatively safe bubble. Driving was along IL Route 59.

Participants: Irina Danilova (performer and driver), Jamie Gannon (photographer), Dubi Kaufmann (barber and videographer), Carron Little (braider and media producer)

Hosted by the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art in Chicago, the performance was broadcasted live on Twitch.tv. Curator: Carron Little
